TVs, DVD players, stereo systems, VHS players, set-top boxes left on standby are adding to global warming. The appliances on standby will be responsible for extra 43m tonnes of carbon dioxide pumped into the atmosphere by then and the energy wastage of J11bn cost by 2010, a survey of Europe's five most populous nations suggests. 
Martec Passpulse UWB RFID technology allows delivering over standby to on-off mode. On-off actuators embedded into the electrical appliances and energized by a UWB remote control can allow households to save more than $100 a year by turning off unused appliances instead leaving them on standby. As for the rest, the UWB remote control operates as an ordinary infra-red remote control.
